You Are Your Most Marketable Feature: Sale Yourself & Own Your Passion

by Kacie Phillips on January 18, 2013

Happy Friday!

We have made it through the week.  And for me?  That means I have made it through a week of VERY little sleep, lots of exercise, work all day, AND COFFEE BY THE GALLON.

Today, I want to briefly talk about PASSION.  What are YOU passionate about?

Through my blog and my social media presence, I strive to EMPOWER.  I am finding myself through HELPING OTHERS.  I want to motivated YOU.  I want to push YOU.  I want you to thrive.

I want you to find things within yourself that better the world, happy your soul, and embrace the joys of life.  Today? I hope this post can kickstart that momentum!  Let’s do it.

“People don’t buy what you do. They buy why you do it.” – Simon Sinek

I promise I’ll keep it brief… for now.

Make TODAY count! via @kacie_phillips on SavvySassyMe.com

What interests you?  What do you find intriguing?  What are your SKILLS?  Where do you THRIVE?

I come from a very BUSINESS-minded perspective on just about everything, but I truly think it has made me who I am.  It keeps me always focused on my goals, while helping myself and others along the way.

I used to shy away from my passion.  I would resist tweet something because of fear of judgement from my peers.  I didn’t promote my blog… because I thought some people may find it silly.  I didn’t talk about health and fitness in person… because I was afraid.  Of what?  Who knows.

Now? I own my passion.

And I couldn’t be happier.

I am literally bubbly and GIDDY when I talk about what I love.  And I know it shines through in the way I speak, the way I type, and the way I engage.

I stopped fighting MYSELF and started EMBRACING MYSELF.

In turn, I began to SALE MYSELF.

I don’t mean this literally.   I mean it VERY figuratively.  I “sale myself” to YOU each and every day.  Think about it: what keeps you coming back to read my blog, follow my Twitter rants, view my photos?

In everything you do and everything you say, you are selling something.  Through conversations, meetings, class, and work… YOU ARE SELLING YOURSELF.

I can only hope my “product” is bundled with positivity, energy, and a true display of PASSION.

Passion is a VERY broad topic, so let’s talk about ONE thing in particular–your online presence.

Let’s get specific.

You strive to say the right things in person, send the proper emails, make the right impression on your boss… so why not extend these habits to your ONLINE PRESENCE?

I am a HUGE advocate for personal promotion.

Get active.  With 10 things or with ONE thing.  It is WORTH IT.

Through social media, blogging, and online interaction… YOU ARE CREATING A NAME FOR YOURSELF.  The world wide web can be your best friend, if you use it PROPERLY and effectively.  Why not?

I am NOT saying that everyone needs a blog.  Definitely not.  Heck, I ‘ll be honest: IT’S A LOT OF WORK AND NOT FOR EVERYONE–It’s not even for most.  But I like to talk and I have a lot to say… so this the PERFECT outlet.

That is what it is all about.  Find what works for YOU.

I am saying that active engagement and a grasp of social media and the world wide web will ONLY help you.

Business is truly GLOBAL; the internet is becoming more and more important.

End rant on blogging and social media.  The real point of today’s post is THIS:

Discover what makes you shine, and market YOURSELF.  You are your most marketable feature.

Don’t be afraid of the world; be MINDFUL of the endless possibilities.

BE FEARLESS.

Whether you are a blogger, social media fanatic, or just a website-visitor-and-internet-peruser, there are some very SIMPLE elements to creating content that spreads like WILDFIRE.

Three Basic Elements of Content that Spreads: Vulnerability, Storytelling, & Answering “Why?”  .

Next, brands are CRAZY not to recognize the influence of social media and online influencers.

“Social savvy individuals often know more about #SocialMedia & engaging w/ digital content than brands and agencies.” http://bit.ly/UW8PLP

Last, but not least: JUST BE YOURSELF.

Let your joy SHINE.  Enjoy life.  Find your passion and LIVE IT.

What are you waiting for?

P.S. – Soooo tonight? I’m going with two of my best friends and my mom to see GEORGE STRAIT.  It’s his final tour kick-off right here in Lubbock. ;-)

Sometimes I can’t NOT be myself. For instance, in business emails I have trouble not still being a complete clown. Probably need to work on that. haha great post! :)

LOVE IT! Perhaps that is something I should have mentioned. I definitely don’t mean to sound like I am preaching to NOT be professional. haha

Preach it!!!! I work in sales, so this post hit home. You’re so right. I’m very young and also blonde for my industry so I work hard to put myself out there. I think you have a future in sales, don’t you!?

I am actually a marketing and management student right now.. just about right, huh? That’s GREAT that you put yourself out there… I can see where sales is for you! Eventually, in some aspect.. sales will DEFINITELY be a big part of my life!

Amen, girl! I so needed to read this today. I read a quote recently about motivation that went something like, “Motivation wears off. So what? So does showering, and that’s why you should re-motivate yourself daily.” I agree completely that in essence, as a blogger or social media presense, we are selling ourselves to others, or at least marketing ourselves. So why not be something worth selling?

Thanks for the motivation & happy Friday!

What a GREAT quote! I love that. ;-) And yesssss if you’re going to sell it; go BIG or go home. tehehe

Thanks for the fantastic post! I am so passionate about running and working out. I started a blog this past fall and have been somewhat afraid to share it with friends and co-workers. I guess I’m afraid they’ll think it’s silly or something. Your post has made me rethink this and I really want to start putting myself out there more.

Oh, trust me. I understand all too well. To this day, it is STILL so difficult to be open and up front about my blog. Why? It’s just so personal. Also, the judgment on it being “silly” that you feel–me too! But, I have found that when more and more of my friends, family, peers, co-workers discover my blog, they are IMPRESSED and not judgmental. SO please, become more open about it… I bet you will find that people think you are pretty darn RAD!

Great post! I try to be myself in every post, tweet etc. I want my readers to feel like they are having a conversation with me. I am happy with who I am and the road it took me to get there so I take pride in who I am (in all aspects of my life)!!
